Advisory Council

Sir Brian Heap is Vice-President of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, co-Director of the Cambridge-Templeton Journalism Fellows programme, and Chair of several Trustee Boards (Academia Europaea, phg Foundation, Cambridge Theological Foundation).  Formerly Master of St Edmund’s College, Cambridge, Vice President and Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society, President of the Institute of Biology, President of the International Society of Science and Religion, Director of Research at the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics Research (Cambridge and Edinburgh) and at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, Swindon, and Special Professor at the University of Nottingham, he has published extensively in biological sciences.  He was UK Representative on the European Science Foundation, Strasbourg, NATO Science Committee, Brussels, and served on the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, the Department of Health’s Expert Group on Cloning, and the EU President’s Advisory Group on Biotechnology.  He has worked for a Parliamentary Select Committee, on public issues arising from biotechnology, population growth, sustainability and science policy (World Health Organisation, the UK-China Forum and the European Commission), and as scientific consultant for several international pharmaceutical companies.
