  • Ethics in Brief Volume 17, Issues 1 & 2 are now available - click here. They include Environmental Apocalypse and Christian Hope by Robert White & Jonathan Moo, and The Church's response to the coming 'crisis of sustainability' by Colin Bell.
  • Jonathan Chaplin will participate in a public debate, 'Is There a Future for Multiculturalism?', organised by the public theology think-tank Theos at London School of Economics on October 20. The event marks the publication of his forthcoming Theos report, Multiculturalism: A Christian Retrieval. This free event runs from 6.30-8.00pm and is held at Old Theatre, Old Building, LSE.
  • A special KLICE seminar on medical ethics will be held on October 24 at Tyndale House (Upper Hexagon room). Senior medical oncologist Dr Jim Rusthoven, from Canada, will give a talk on 'Appeals to Covenant as the Basis for a Bioethical Framework'. Late afternoon or evening - time TBC.   • A one-hour lunchtime seminar on 'Animals and God's Plan for the World', given by veterinary specialist Dr David Williams (St John's College, Cambridge) will be held at 1.00pm, October 25 at Tyndale House, (Upper Hexagon room). (Bring your own lunch if you wish)
  • The Director will deliver the annual Ashe Lecture, on 'the Bible in British society', at St Helen's Anglican Church, Ashby de la Zouch, October 27.
  • The Director will serve as a panellist at a conference on 'The Modern State and the Kingdom of God', Blackfriars Hall, Oxford, October 29.
  • The Theology For All Conference 2011: "The Unique and Universal Christ" will take place on October 29 at Eden Baptist Church, Cambridge. Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali will speak on the person and work of Christ in a plural world, with some discussion of how his uniqueness relates to cultures and to people of other faiths and its importance for Christian mission.   • 'Law and Ethics for learners', November 12, Birmingham, in partnership with Lawyers' Christian Fellowship. Details to follow.

News...

  • 30 people attended a showing of the film 'Doing Virtuous Business' on September 21. Presented by Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Malloch, director of the Spiritual Capital Initiative at Yale University, the film was followed by a panel of senior local business leaders and academics. The event was organised by Transforming Business and co-sponsored by KLICE. Full details here.
  • 15 people attended the KLICE Law and Ethics summer school on September 24-25, offered in partnership with Lawyers' Christian Fellowship.
  • 100 people from a wide diversity of backgrounds attended the conference on 'Sustainability in Crisis' from September 26-28. Highlights included powerful presentations by leading US campaigner Bill McKibben and an inspirational lecture by Satish Kumar, editor of Resurgence Magazine. Further details and follow-up here.
  • Associate Director Joshua Hordern represented KLICE at 'Integrated: The Bible in Professional Life', in partnership with Lawyers' Christian Fellowship and Christian Police Association, All Souls Langham Place, London, October 1, an event attended by 200 people. Joshusa also spoke at the Christian Medical Fellowship event where KLICE Advisory Council member John Wyatt gave the plenary talk.
  • Jonathan Chaplin gave a lecture at 'Big Society - Bigger Nature?' - a conference on civil society at the University of Manchester, October 1. KLICE was one of 3 co-sponsors.
  • Jonathan Chaplin gives the opening lecture, on 'Civil Society and Christian Social Thought', at a conference of Faith in Europe, October 5-7, held in Cropthorne, Worcestershire.

  • Professor Robert George of Princeton University will deliver the Second Annual Anscombe Memorial Lecture on October 21 in the Garden Quad Auditorium of St John's College. He will speak on Science, Philosophy and Religion in the Embryo Debate. More information here.
